PRODUCT REVIEW – L’OREAL ELVIVE FIBROLOGY SERUM
Product Review – L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology Double Serum.
I was really quite excited to receive this ‘Elvive Fibrology Double Serum’ to test for free from L’Oréal Paris. It certainly looked very glam with its eye-catching packaging and provided more than enough eye candy to be initially appealing.
I applied the serum to freshly washed, slightly damp hair and was pleased to find that it wasn’t as thick or gloopy as I’d imagined, in fact it was actually a very light serum that was easy to apply without dripping all over the place. It wasn’t horribly heavy and rinsed off quickly, unlike some products where you are still scrubbing your hands ten minutes later, trying to remove the residue.
One thing that I find really matters to me with these kind of products is the smell. Your hair, by it’s very nature, is going to spend an awfully long time swishing about very close to your nose…and to be bombarded with something overpowering and nasty would just make any product pointless for me, regardless how good it made my hair look. Well no such worries here, the smell honestly is gorgeous! rather like coming back from a trip to the hairdressers, no nasty cheap-perfumy scent, no overpowering pong to send people running, in fact it’s actually rather classy and subtle enough not to be annoying. That was definitely a big plus for me!
After using the serum, I blow dried my hair a little bit, as it was still slightly damp from washing and left it to see how it would feel. The results were rather good actually! My hair felt heavier – not uncomfortably so but enough to actually give my hair some life and allow it to ‘swing’ rather than flop. There was certainly a bit more body there – not loads – but a definite increase and the best bit of all was the glossy managable finish it left me with. Goodbye flyaway frizzy mop, hello sleek, glossy hairstyle.
The only downside I can really think of, is that there really isn’t that much in the bottle. You’d be forgiven for picking it up and thinking it was full of serum but actually, it’s not. If you look at the body of the bottle, you can look through the outer plastic casing and see that there are in fact, two tubes of different products inside (hence, ‘double’ serum). As these are both dispensed at the same time when you press the pump, I would imagine the product would vanish rather quickly if you were to use it every day, as the bottle suggests.
I think I’d describe this as more of a defrizzing and smoothing serum, rather than a thickening one to be honest. Although it does add some volume, the overall effect in my view, was to tame frizz and give gloss to dull lifeless hair – something which it did admirably.
Would I buy it again? Definitely, although it wouldn’t be something I’d use every day…it would certainly be a top choice when going out somewhere nice and I think with it’s lovely smell and shine, it would do a good job of making you feel pretty confident about how your hair looks…that’s good enough for me!
Gorgeous smell, easy to apply and non-drippy. Leaves hair glossy and smooth.
Not loads in the bottle, so I wouldn’t use it every day as suggested. More of a smoothing serum than a thickener.
